I.Sources and composition of electroplating wastewater:

1. The sources of electroplating wastewater mainly include:
Plate cleaning water
Waste plating solution
Flushing workshop floor, brushing plate washing water, etc.
Equipment cooling water (uncontaminated)

2. Electroplating wastewater contains a variety of heavy metal ions, such as chromium, copper, nickel, zinc, lead, cadmium, etc., some of which are highly toxic substances that are carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic. Therefore, treating electroplating wastewater is crucial to protecting the environment and human health.

II.Treatment methods for electroplating wastewater

1.Chemical treatment method:

Neutralization method: Through acid-base neutralization reaction, adjust the pH of electroplating wastewater to make it neutral or close to neutral, mainly used to treat pickling wastewater from electroplating plants.

Reduction method: Add reducing agent (such as FeSO4, NaHSO3, etc.) to the wastewater to reduce Cr(VI) to Cr(III), and then add NaOH or lime milk for precipitation and separation.

Coagulation method: By adding coagulants, suspended matter and colloidal substances in wastewater are condensed into larger particles, and then separated by precipitation or flotation.

Oxidation method: Use oxidants (such as Cl2, H2O2) to oxidize reducing substances in wastewater, which is often used to treat wastewater containing cyanide.

2.Biological treatment method:

Biological adsorption method: Use organisms or their derivatives as adsorbents to selectively adsorb heavy metal ions in wastewater.
‌Biological flocculation method‌: Use microorganisms or their metabolites to flocculate and precipitate to remove suspended matter and colloidal substances in wastewater.

‌3.Physical and chemical treatment method‌:
‌Air flotation method‌: Inject dissolved air water under high pressure to make microbubbles adhere to suspended matter in wastewater to form scum for removal.
‌Ion exchange method‌: Use ion exchange resin to remove heavy metal ions in wastewater. ‌ ‌Membrane separation technology‌: Such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration, used to remove small molecules in wastewater. ‌
