On October 17, 2024, our owner talked about his vision for UVDF's germicidal products during an internal meeting for new employee training in the sales department. Our conversation below has been edited for clarity and length.
New Employee A: The UVDF germicidal faucet is really innovative, and combining the UV germicidal function with a water purification faucet is really a great idea. May I ask what was your original intention of wanting to develop our sterilizing faucet?
A: This question makes me think of a friend of mine in Taiwan, we were having dinner in Shanghai in 2017 and we talked about the future of the development of the purification industry. He asked me, why don't we make a faucet with sterilization function? Because our ordinary faucet is not used for a long time, it will produce a layer of bacterial mucous membrane on the inside, just like the water in the water tank will turn green if it is left for a long time. This is difficult to rinse off with water flow. And there will be a lot of bacteria breeding, harming your health.
New employee B: Yes! The water tank in our old house would easily turn green and cloudy, and we don't even know where the dirt came from.
A: You are right, many bacteria and viruses are invisible to us. Just like our own domesticated dogs and cats, many animals prefer to drink live water because flowing water will be cleaner than still water. If you still can't understand, just like what we see broadcast on the news, many college students come back from winter vacation and summer vacation, the first water they open, the water is either very yellow and cloudy, or very green full of rust, which is the smell of rusty old pipeline water. There may also be some sediment and bacteria.
New Employee A: That's why we call on everyone to use water purifiers, which makes us more confident in the future of the water purification industry. The pipes in our house broke last time, but we didn't even know about it, and the water that came out actually had a lot of bugs and green moss in it, so I suspect that surface water, rainwater, seeped in.
A: Do all of you know about Minamata disease in Japan? They had excessive mercury in their industrial wastewater and discharged it illegally causing many people to get sick. Conventional lamp type ultraviolet commonly known as mercury lamps, the lamp contains mercury , and the service life is only one year, the discarded lamps are not effectively controlled, the harm to human health is very great. So in 2016, the international environmental protection signed the “Minamata Treaty”, agreed to reduce or ban the production and use of mercury lamps. The germicidal faucets and sterilizers we use use Asahi Kasei's UV LED beads, which do not contain mercury. They are physically sterilized by 265nm ultraviolet light. This ultraviolet band has the strongest sterilization effect. But many manufacturers of lamp beads only publicize their UV band between 270-280nm, which is not stable, the effect is not good.
New employee B: May I ask you why we choose Asahi Kasei LED beads from Japan?
A: It's a very fortuitous opportunity, we reached a strategic cooperation with Asahi Kasei in 2018, and both of us spent a lot of time discussing and experimenting about the application of the lamp beads inside the faucet or sterilizer, the design of the internal structure and the design of the power distribution and protection. And we are selling exclusively in Asia. Having said that, one of our training content is about some of the advantages of this lamp bead. It can be said that 99% of the UV on the market is very general UV, because of the substrate and high precision; ours is a real UVC deep UV with 265nm wavelength in cooperation with AK. The stability of the lamp bead is also very important, Asahi Kasei's lamp bead raw material crystals are purchased from the U.S. CIS company. It has a long life, according to the sterilization on the use of time, the cumulative total can be used 3500-30000 hours, this time we divided into two kinds of household and commercial, general household drinking water according to the 0.5 hours / day, specifications 2L / min can be out of the water 60L of sterile water, can be time is about 19 years. Commercial use: for example, is a tea store, etc., according to 4 hours / day, available for 20 years. Oh yes, this life time is calculated according to the industry standard 70% of the failure value. We can say that Asahi Kasei's lamp beads are exactly the best choice of lamp beads for the high quality and standard products we want to achieve.
New Employee A: Then why can't we choose another domestic lamp bead for our customers to make a differentiated choice?
A: I've thought about this in previous years, but I now have three main reasons. First, many domestic manufacturers of lamp beads and not up to the standards I want, if we lower our product standards to produce products, sterilization effect can not be guaranteed if sold to customers this is not the result we want UVDF, we can only do a good job of the product to the customer. This also enhances our brand value. Secondly, the management problem, the lamp beads this thing, long are similar, we are difficult to distinguish with the naked eye, even if the color marking, if the personnel management is not in place, or prone to problems. Then the customer hands to get the product is really what we want to make for him? So we'll just directly eliminate this result is best. The last reason is that if you people hear rumors that we are substituting good for bad, like saying that you are obviously using good lamp beads, and other people say that you are purchasing low quality lamp beads at the same time, and suspect that you are getting poor grades, it will be very difficult for us to prove it.
